About the Sixth Form

We are delighted to inform you that we have been able to re-arrange our onsite Year 11 into 12 information evening to Wednesday 8th December. The event will run from 6pm - 8pm.

There are a number of conditions within our risk assessment to mitigate transmission at the event, including adequate ventilation, a request that all visitors to take a LFT before the event, hand sanitiser available on arrival and the wearing of face coverings where possible.

There will be no formal presentation to a large gathering in the main hall, so this has been pre-recorded and will be available on our website. The subject stands will run as advertised and members of senior team will be available to discuss options.

We hope that you will join us at this incredibly informative and supportive event for all those wishing to explore our Sixth Form provision and future pathways.

We look forward to welcoming you on the evening.

Welcome to the sixth form area of the school website – We hope this area gives you a flavour of the fantastic offer that we have here.

Barnwell School sixth form is a unique place to learn that embraces the pursuit of academic excellence, fosters leadership, and creates opportunity, all within a supportive and nurturing environment.

Our Sixth Form Learning Journey

6th form journeyΒ

Sixth Form students have full access to a wide range of courses through our own curriculum and the long-established Stevenage Sixth Consortium. We offer a wide range of A level, BTEC and CTEC courses together with our unique Level 2 Pre-Apprenticeship Course. Our curriculum is coherently planned and sequenced towards building sufficient knowledge and skills for future learning and destinations. Whether you are wishing to pursue a career in medicine, law or architecture, want to be an actor or artist, or wish to pursue sport and science, we have the expertise, facilities and knowledge to help you. Life in the Sixth Form is busy and focused, but there are multiple opportunities to extend skills and experiences both in lessons and outside. There are also many opportunities for fun!

'The leadership and management of the sixth form is a strength of the school. Leaders look continually for ways to improve the curriculum' (Ofsted- January 2018)

However, it is not just academic performance that we aim to enhance at Barnwell School. We also ensure that our students become young adults who are prepared to face the modern world with confidence and determination. Student leadership is an important part of sixth form life; our Head Students and leadership team play a key role in school life, and competition is fierce for these positions of responsibility.

This is supported by a comprehensive enrichment programme that allows our students to understand and embrace the modern world. This can take many forms including 'Stretch' Talks, The Ivy House Award, The National Citizen Service Programme, MOOCS, sporting competitions, trips and visits, learning first aid, or listening to varied and interesting speakers from different walks of life. There is a constant commitment to widen the life experience of our students and we ensure that students leave our school with the self confidence to progress to whatever their next step may be.

Supporting all of this is our unswerving commitment to student well-being. There is a dedicated team of sixth form staff who are here to support our sixth form students. We understand that life and learning is not always smooth, so we have a network of support for each student through the comprehensive mentoring system and the sixth form team.

We are extremely proud of our sixth form and look forward to welcoming you.
