There are many opportunities for students to participate in dance activities beyond the curriculum whether or not they choose to take dance as an examination subject at Key Stage 4 and 5. These include performing at local festivals and events, Rock Challenge and the many school productions that take place every year.
The Kart club meets in term time, on Wednesday nights from 17.30 - 19.30, during March to November in the Tech Block of the Upper Campus. We break for the winter between November and March as it's too cold and wet to race but during this time we will usually meet up to have a meal, go bowling or go to the cinema. We also discuss future events, race meetings and fundraising events. This is a family club, so a parent needs to be on site and at race meetings to keep an eye on their child, it's also a good chance to get to know each other socially as we spend a lot of time together on race days.
Wednesday club nights are spent either checking the karts following a race meeting, preparing the karts and loading them onto the trailer for the next race, learning about the track and talking about fundraising or other club details. Parents and children will also be taught how to maintain and fix the karts.
We race in NatSKA - The National Schools Karting Association. The competition year starts in September and finishes in June the following year with a break from November to March. There are 10-12 race meetings per year with some of them being quite a distance away. The karting year ends in June with 'The Nationals' which take place over 3 days. If you attend, you will need to either camp or stay in a hotel. This is optional and not club funded but group accommodation will be discussed nearer the time. The days are long when we go to races and leaving home at 5am is not unusual so it is important that you and your child show a commitment to the club if they want to race.
If you are interested in becoming the next formula 1 champion come along on a Wednesday evening and join us. Email Mr Hull - firstname.lastname@example.org
If Lewis Hamilton can do it so can you!
