Ofsted Report 2005

We are pleased with the findings of the report and, in particular, the recognition that the school has made considerable progress and has the capacity to improve still further.

Under this new inspection system, the grading of schools has changed from a 7 point scale to 4. All areas of the schools work are now judged as being:

  • Outstanding
  • Good
  • Satisfactory
  • Unsatisfactory
  • with satisfactory taken to be the average for schools across the country.

All the judgements about Barnwell are satisfactory or good with the majority in the good category. As Head and Chair of Governors we are pleased that the inspection team, as well as finding much to praise, also agreed with our own assessment of the work of the school. Where there is scope to improve the inspectors recognised that we were already working on it and making progress. This gives us real confidence to continue our work and make further improvements in the future.

We are determined to ensure that on the next inspection in three years time all our judgements, not just the majority, are good.

Finally, a big thank you to you and your children. It is through your support that we achieved a positive report and it is knowing this that makes us so confident about the future. In particular, congratulate your children. The HMI Lead Inspector told us not only that behaviour was good and your children were proud of the school but that "your pupils really enjoy coming to school" and were "charming".

We will keep you informed, through Barnwell Bytes, of what we intend to do to make progress in the future and are confident that the school will go from strength to strength.

Finally we would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff whose commitment to the school and our students made this possible.

In the meantime, thank you for your support and we hope you enjoy reading the report, gaining from it as much confidence in Barnwell as we did when it arrived in school.
