The Sixth Form at Barnwell is a thriving and ever expanding centre for learning. Catering for over 200 students, an outstanding curriculum and new purpose built facilities from September 2014, the Sixth Form offers students the opportunity to build upon their Key Stage 4 successes.
Small teaching groups and individual guidance through academic mentoring will help students to gain the best possible examination grades and ensure students are prepared for Higher Education and the workplace. Academic success, together with sport, drama, music, adventure activities and much more on offer makes Sixth Form life fun and rewarding. Through the opportunities that we offer, we hope to discover the aptitudes and talents of each individual and to develop them to the fullest. Through extra-curricular activity, as well as through work in the classroom, we will encourage all students to grow in self-discipline and to value tolerance and respect for others.
We also enable students to develop other skills that are required at university and in their future career by providing opportunities to play a unique and valuable part in the school. Students regularly organise and lead events with the younger students, demonstrating tremendous leadership and motivational skills. The Head Boy and Head Girl, along with committee members, play a key role in the school and competition is fierce for these positions of responsibility.
The Sixth Form is large enough to provide a good social environment, but it is also small enough for students to be known personally; for student potential to be recognised and developed; and for support to be given when needed.
Parents are kept up to date with Sixth Form life through a weekly bulletin and are involved in their child’s progress every step on their educational journey. In Year 12 all parents are invited to attend an Information Evening in the first half term, followed by a parents’ evening in the second term of Years 12 and 13. Parents are also invited to attend our annual UCAS and Student Finance information evenings.
If you are a young person who has commenced further education, an apprenticeship or employment with training and are now reconsidering this choice, please do contact us to discuss the options available to you within the sixth form at Barnwell School.
