Curriculum
All students at Barnwell study French and German in Year 7 and 8 with some students studying Spanish at Year 9.
Currently Year 9 students have the opportunity to study one or both languages to GCSE, AS and A-Level. Spanish is also taught at Key Stage 4.
We use interactive, communicative teaching methods, enabling students to gain expertise in the foreign language and insight into continental culture through language games, work with authentic materials, direct contact with native speakers and the use of ICT, as well as more traditional teaching of grammar and vocabulary.
In addition, we are joined each year by two language assistants who provide opportunities for students to improve their speaking skills and who coach students in preparation for exams.
The department is well-equipped with multi-media computers and interactive whiteboards in all classrooms.
