KS3
All students study a comprehensive course in ICT at Key Stage 3 having one lesson per week in a fully equipped ICT suite.
The course aims to develop student’s skills in and knowledge of ICT throughout KS3, equipping them to take on the challenge at KS4.
Year 7
Processing text and images using DTP, digital camera and scanner.
Using ICT - including presentation software, camera and Scanner.
E Safety – use of the internet, word processing software.
Control – Using the LOGO and FLOWOL software.
Rules and Investigations – Learning to use Spreadsheets
Data – Learning to use a Database.
Year 8
Information: Reliability,validity and Bias – Internet and Presentation software Data use and misuse – Wordprocessing software
Models: presenting numeric data – Use of a spreadsheet in a practical scenario Publishing on the web – HTML, publisher and Dreamweaver software
Creating a Database – Developing a database in a practical scenario Chocolate factory marketing a chocolate bar – Digital blue
Year 9
Control Systems - FLOWOL, Presentation
Game database project – Access
Fashion Show – DTP, Spreadsheet, Word processing, Database, Presentation Fireworks.
KS4
OCR Nationals in ICT
The emphasis in the OCR nationals is on acquiring practical skills. The qualification is completely assessed by students completing a portfolio of evidence for each unit. There is no terminal exam.
First Award (equivalent to 1 GCSE) – students study 3 units:
ICT Skills for Business – covering health and safety, spreadsheets, databases, searching the internet effectively, presentation skills and business documents.
Web Graphics – students design and create a variety of graphics suitable to use on a website
Web Design – students design and create a website to meet a specific set of user needs.
Award (equivalent to 2 GCSE) – students study 5 units:
ICT Skills for Business – covering health and safety, spreadsheets, databases, searching the internet effectively, presentation skills and business documents.
Web Graphics – students design and create a variety of graphics suitable to use on a website
Web Design – students design and create a website to meet a specific set of user needs.
Spreadsheets – Students design and create and test a spreadsheet for a business.
Databases – Students create a relational database for a business user.
Cambridge Nationals in ICT
PLEASE NOTE: From September 2012, Cambridge Nationals in ICT will be taught. However the OCR Nationals will continue to be taught until May 2013.

BTEC ITQ (Users) Level 1
The BTEC Certificate for IT Users is a level 1 course designed to give learners the opportunity to:
• engage in learning which is relevant to them and will provide opportunities to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal skills and attributes essential for successful performance in working life;
• achieve a nationally recognised Entry or Level 1 vocationally related qualification;
• progress to employment in a particular vocational sector;
• progress to related general and/or vocational qualifications.

Unit 1 The Information Age
ePortfolio (internally assessed) - Internet searching and multi-media content gathering and creation for the development of an eBook for Life in the Information Age using Dreamweaver, Fireworks, and MS Movie Maker.
Unit 2 The Digital Economy
ePortfolio (internally assessed)- Investigate how organisations respond to pressures of the emarketplace using transactional websites behind their web sites. Develop MS Assess skills to interrogate and extract information.
Unit 3 The Knowledge Worker
eExam (externally assessed) – Develop your skills as a knowledge worker to select and manipulate information using spreadsheet models to turn information into knowledge using an exam based scenario.
- A2 Single – units 7, 8, 10
Unit 10 Using Multi-Media Software
ePortfolio (internally assessed) - The development of a eLearning multi-media educational product where you create several multi-media components combining Dreamweaver, Flash, Fireworks, MS Movie Maker and Audacity
Unit 8 Managing ICT Projects
ePortfolio (internally assessed) - the ‘project management’ of the eLearning product where you are the project manager and you develop the product for a real ‘client’. You will learn project management skills & techniques to deliver a successful project. MS Project will be used for planning and monitoring.
Unit 7 Using Database Software
eExam (externally assessed)– Large organisations rely on databases to manage their information and provide them fast and flexible access to it. You will use MS Access to organise and interrogate structured information and produce reports for an exam scenario.
