Drama, Theatre Studies and Performing Arts

At Barnwell Drama, Theatre Studies and Performing Arts are taught across the entire age range up to and including BTEC/A level.

All students are given creative opportunities to experience, understand and use dramatic concepts, form and techniques.

They will encounter a wide range of performance materials and texts.

Students have access to an extensive range of live theatre and there is an impressive extended curriculum with a wide-ranging performance programme.

Workshops and productions form an important part of school life and help to facilitate strong community links. Our company players & faces @ Barnwell participates with regular success in local, regional and national festivals.

Drama is a dynamic part of Expressive Arts and pupils explore the many and varied links between music, art and dance.

Creative Partnership

During Drama and Art lessons Year 8 students at Barnwell have been working with visiting artist Andy D’Cruz to create a shared piece of work using words, action and image; which is inspired by artist Cornelia Parker.

The shared work included: Students Levi Delancy & Joe Smith involving delegates in their “fidget duet” at the Creative Partnership Conference 2010, staff at school where asked to donate “the sound of their voice” by being tape recorded and finally a huge art installation titled: Fragments in Space – which involved many students and staff has been designed and appears in one of the West Campus classrooms.
