Year 7 Day Trip to France

The annual Year 7 French day trip took place on Tuesday 1st July.

We all assembled on the West campus at the unearthly hour of 4am and drove to Dover. After a very smooth crossing we arrived in France in brilliant sunshine and drove to the lovely walled town of Montreuil –sur –Mer.

Students spent the next part of the day exploring the town with their group leaders and trying out their French. It was fantastic to hear so many using the language to order food and drinks in cafes and to buy baguettes, ice-creams, croissants, postcards and stamps. It has to be said that many of the accompanying staff also gave their school French an airing and to good effect– bravo!

Later on in the day we drove to a hypermarket near Calais for yet more shopping and enjoyed a lovely calm and sunny crossing back to Dover. We arrived back at Barnwell, a tired but happy bunch, at 10pm. It was a really enjoyable day. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the running of the trip, accompanying staff and administration staff - It is no mean feat to take 124 students abroad! I should also like to mention that on three separate occasions’ members of the public complimented our students on their behaviour and positive attitude.
