Buddy System
Buddies support the transition of students from Year 6 to Year 7. They do this by:
- Visiting Year 6 students in their primary schools
- Facilitating circle time sessions with Year 6 students in their primary school.
- Helping on the 'New intake' evening.
- Helping on the 'New intake' day.
- Being allocated individual Year 6 students when they arrive at Barnwell in Year 7 so that they can directly mentor them, meeting them regularly.
- Attending Year 7 form time to support the form tutor and be available for Year 7 students who want to talk.
- Running a Year 7 meet a buddy games club one lunchtime each week.
- Being 'on duty' at lunchtime in the Year 7 play area.
Buddies are recruited in the Spring Term of Year 9. They receive training in how to listen and support younger students after they have completed their SATs exams. They then go on to support the students as above into Year 10.
