Robot Rumble Report

Once again this year students from Barnwell Business and Enterprise School took part in the annual Stevenage Robot Rumble. This event is sponsored by MBDA Stevenage, who supplies the Vex kits and mentors to work with the students.
This year for the first time we have two teams, ‘The Honey Badgers’ with team members being Luke Searle, Ewan Rennie, Hollie Bowker, Jessica Bowker, Jenessa Humphries, Micheal Stephens and ‘The Free Range Complications’ team members being Karl Newton, Daniel Brockwell, Stef Harrop, Katie Woolford, Abigail Stow.
Building started in October and on Friday 25th November both teams and their mentors visited MBDA for an extra building session and the chance to meet some of the other schools and see the competition for the first time.
On Saturday 17th December it was time for the competition, this year the venue was the University of Hertfordshire and the facilities were amazing with big screens for the spectators to watch all the matches on.
Both our teams worked really hard and despite some technical problems they both did very well.
It gives me great pleasure to inform you that the members of the ‘Free Range Complications’ were given a special award for endeavour as a reflection for their great team work, in the words of the head judge ‘Even when things were not going too well for this team they were still smiling and working together to put things right’
In addition to this award each of the students from both teams has received a Bronze Crest Award. This is awarded by the British Science Association and is Britain's largest national award scheme for project work in the STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths); 25,000 young people have achieved CREST Awards in the last year alone.
