Barnwell Musicians Get Counted In

Thursday, 11th November 2010

Barnwell was asked by County to join the "Count us in" music project which was born out of an initial primary school project where-upon a whole class was given musical instruments to learn for a year to encourage more students to become instrumentalists.

Students from the Primary School initiative were in our last Year 7 and Mrs Bozwood-Davies - Head of Music at Barnwell was asked to highlight these students and to try to encourage them to take up the instrument again.  However, this time the project has the might of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra behind them (after having completed a similar project themselves in London).

The children really enjoyed working with the RPO conductor, Jason and the instructors and have benefited from this additional tuition on the instrument and experienced working together in small and large groups. They have learned practice and performing disciplines and now have a real commitment to the Barnwell ensemble of players.

The project has involved working with students and colleagues from other secondary schools in Stevenage and the final concert - involving over 200 children from schools in Hertfordshire - is on the evening of Monday 15th November at the Gordon Craig Theatre.

The evening promises to be a great event and we encourage students, staff and parents to go along and support them.

A big thanks to Mrs Bozwood-Davies for all her hard work and determination.
