Our School Day from September 2010

Frequently asked questions

How many lessons will there students have each day?

Students will generally have between 3 and 6 lessons per day.  Most lessons are 40, 60 or 100 minutes in length.  In addition, all KS3 students have two 20-minute Reading lessons each week.

What will be the shape of the day?

The diagram shows how the day will be divided – into three 100-minute sessions, which are then subdivided further into 40- or 60-minute blocks as required.  Break for all will be at 10.30 for twenty minutes, and all students will have the same lunch break at 12.30 for fifty minutes.  The twenty-minute units mean that there are fewer occasions where all students are on the move at the same time.

How will the new timetable look, and why will it look different?

In order to show lessons of varying lengths, the day has been divided into fifteen 20-minute sessions (in three blocks of five).  So most lessons are double, triple or quintuple sessions.

What about sixth-form lessons?

Most sixth-form lessons will now be in 100-minute sessions (three per day).  As before, sixth-form courses are on a single day to fit in with the Stevenage 14-19 Partnership timetable across the town.

How about registration?

Morning registration is unchanged – 15 minutes from 8.35 to 8.50.  Afternoon marks will be taken from the register for period 3a (1.20pm).

Do we still start and finish the day at the same time?

Yes.  There is no change to our start or finish times.
