Advice and Information for Parents and Teachers Of Struggling Readers

At David¹s Bookshop, Wednesday, 6 October at 7:30 pm

Some children need a lot of help if they¹re ever going to learn to read. But

what¹s the best way to help them? How can you get a child to read if he or

she just doesn¹t like books, has reading difficulties or dyslexia? How can

you help a child if they find reading a struggle?   Come along to David¹s

and listen to two specialists.

 

Patience Thomson is the founder of Barrington Stoke, publishers of books for

struggling readers.  She has discussed all kinds of reading concerns and

solutions with the parents and carers of the hundreds of children with

reading difficulties she has taught over 30 years. She has listened to

adults and children and knows what works. In her book, 101 Ways to get your

Child To Read, Patience shares the tried and tested tips that have helped

others and she is confident that if you dip into the book you will find ways

to help you to get your child to read.

 

Pete Johnson is the award-winning author of the Calderdale Children's Book

of the Year 2006 and the Sheffield Children's Book Award 2005. Pete hasworked as a teacher and a film critic for Radio 1. His titles for Barrington Stoke include Diary of an (Un)Teenager, How Embarrassing Is That?, The Best Holiday Ever and Runaway Teacher.  He lives in St Albans .
