York Exchange

On Thursday 19th April we invited 16 students from Burnholme Business and Enterprise College in York to attend a day at Barnwell School.

The day started off with introductions and a tour of Barnwell West, they then went on a tour of Stevenage new and old town and the Barnwell students were the tour guides, sharing their knowledge of their home town with our guests.

In the afternoon they went to Barnwell East where there was a quiz containing questions on both Stevenage and York, followed by short presentations on what they had found out about each other during the day.  The students had to work together in pairs one from Barnwell and one from Burnholme.

The day proved to be very successful with the students growing in confidence as the day went on.  At the end of the day e-mail addresses were exchanged and arrangements made for the Barnwell students to visit York.

The reason behind this exchange is to introduce both sets of students to the differences in the culture and expectations of the two schools and although we are similar there are differences in our surroundings and make up.

It is also hoped that this experience will encourage students to be more confident when making choices about further education.
