Enterprise Process
Enterprise is a method of teaching and a way of learning rather than a subject that can be studied or an exam that can be taken and can be embedded into the culture of a school over a period of time.
There is a wealth of opportunities and a number of outside agencies that can provide help and support but, initially, a simple process should be followed to ensure success.
- A school should look at what they are doing already and record activities that are, or could be made, enterprising.
- From this information a baseline will be developed and an audit report complete
- The whole staff need a clear understanding of what Enterprise is and what the school is trying to achieve. This can be done with a simple questionnaire and a presentation to the staff
- The Governors also need to understand the meaning of enterprise and the way it will impact on the school. Enterprise needs to be incorporated into the Work Related Learning policy and needs to be in the school development plan
- A departmental audit should then be carried out to help decide how different areas of the curriculum can be made more enterprising
- When all the information has been gathered it should be recorded in an action plan and gaps in the provision of Enterprise Education identified
- Schools should then look at the extensive range of service providers that may be able to fill these gaps. Particular attention needs to be paid to preparation and learning outcomes of any activity. Schools have been given between 15K and 20 K each year to fund these activities
- In all areas consideration needs to be given to the element of Enterprise Education which is Financial Capability
- Schools should then complete the statutory requirement of the equivalent of 5 days Enterprise Learning by developing existing activities such as drama productions, sports days and, in particular, fundraising activities.
This complete process can be facilitated and supported by engagement with Enterprise East of England.
